The Holidays

As most of you know, Todd and I were not able to come home for the holidays this year. Our families were so wonderful in changing their plans to come up to us for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For Thanksgiving, my parents and Josh came up Wednesday through Saturday. This was the first time Josh had come and visited us since we have been married. We missed Michael being here, but he was in Nashville with Ellyn (his girlfriend). Wednesday night we went out to dinner once they got in town and unpacked a full car of Christmas presents and things we had left at home. Mom and I prepped most of our Thanksgiving meal Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, I started cooking my first turkey! Thank goodness Grandmom sent up her homemade dressing because that is my favorite part and I was a little nervous to fix it for the first time!
While mom and I fixed Thanksgiving meal, the boys watched football and played Wii. After our meal of turkey and gravy, dressing (or stuffing as Todd calls it even though it wasn't IN the turkey) fruit salad, green bean bundles, mashed potatoes, rolls and the best dessert bear bryant pie with ice cream, we had our family Wii bowling tournament. I'm pretty sure Josh spends way too much time on that thing because he creamed everyone! I had to work Friday morning so mom, dad, todd and josh went to breakfast before we all came home to watch the Iron Bowl. We were soo pumped up at halftime of how awesome we were playing but as we all know were very mad and frustrated at how it ended our season. We were soo close! After the Bama game we took them to a KState basketball game, which was a lot of fun for them to see our new team we cheer for! We even got them in some purple gear! They left Saturday morning to head back to Memphis :( Todd and I so enjoyed having them here and I was not ready for them to leave knowing we would not see them for Christmas. We are so thankful for them changing plans with our entire family to come make our first Thanksgiving married even more special.

For Christmas, Todd's parents and Brandon came up to celebrate with us Wednesday- Sunday. Again, we started the visit unloading a full car of presents and other things from home! Thursday, Todd was off of work but I had a full day of training. When I got off at 7 that night, I met everyone at the KState basketball game then we went out for dinner. Friday morning I finally was able to sleep in a bit and we got up to fix a late breakfast on Christmas Eve. All afternoon we watched old Christmas movies like White Christmas and the original Miracle on 34th Street while we made Christmas cookies for "Santa". We went to Christmas Eve service at 5:00 at our new church. It was wonderful, all by candlelight and the traditional Christmas hymns. Coming home afterwards, we fixed our Christmas Eve meal of seafood and pasta.
Christmas Day we woke up early and skyped with my family and opened all of our presents from them. It was nice to be able to see them and talk for an hour being so far away. We then fixed our traditional breakfast bubble ring along with fruit and egg casserole before we started opening the rest of our presents. We then continued on the eating with Christmas meal that afternoon of ham, mashed potatoes, green bean and bacon casserole, sweet potatoes and rolls.
I gave Todd the Xbox kinect for Christmas, so all evening we played Dance Central and Kinect sports in between watching football. Dance Central is by far the coolest game ever! It was so funny watching the battles between Brandon and Todd.
Early Sunday morning, the Poley family headed back to Memphis. It was a lot of fun having them here for our first Christmas and thank them so much for making such a hard trip up to see us. We missed Brooke and Daniel over Christmas but I know they had a great first Christmas in Memphis.

Much love to our amazing families!
